Many people believe that karate is only for young, wiry athletes. But the opposite is true: especially for people over 40, this traditional martial art offers an ideal way to bring body, mind, and soul into harmony while staying fit, stable, and balanced, in addition to learning effective forms of self-defense. Especially in our fast-paced world, which for many is characterized by high workloads and great uncertainty, karate helps build resilience and brings inner peace. A study by the University of Regensburg even shows that karate can have a supportive effect on diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. The training specifically promotes coordination, concentration, mobility, balance, and agility. And last but not least, one thing is at the top of the list: enjoying exercise in an appreciative community.

Highly qualified training with tradition

The training is led by Sensei Jamal Measara – the only 10th Dan (DKV) in Germany. With his outstanding expertise, he teaches traditional Shorin-Ryu Seibukan Karate, which stands not only for effective self-defense, but also for a holistic approach to health.

Okinawa, the home of this karate style, is known worldwide for the longevity of its population – a sign that exercise, mindfulness, and an active lifestyle play an important role in a healthy, fulfilling life.

Join in and reap the benefits

With this in mind, the “Karate for my life” training group is specifically aimed at adults in mid-life. Starting on Friday, September 19, training will take place weekly from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Budo Academy Kelheim (Am Oberen Zweck 8). Anyone interested is welcome to attend a free trial training session in comfortable clothing – no previous experience necessary. Just join in!

Whether you're getting back into sports, an everyday hero, or health-conscious – if you want to learn something new, develop yourself physically and mentally, and start the weekend in a good mood, this is the place for you.

Karate

Karate (Japanese 空手, lit. “empty hand”) is a martial art whose history can be reliably traced back to Okinawa in the 19th century, where indigenous Okinawan traditions (Okinawan Ti, 手) merged with Chinese influences (Jap. Shorin Kempō / Kenpō; Chin. Shàolín Quánfǎ) to form the historical Tōde (Okin. Tōdi, 唐手). At the beginning of the 20th century, it made its way to Japan and, after the Second World War, was spread from there around the world as karate.

Shizentai-dachi (自然体) – The Natural Body State in Budō

In Budō, progress is often measured not by how many techniques one knows, but by how naturally and effortlessly one can move between them. One of the clearest expressions of this principle is **Shizentai-dachi**.
